Podbean is a hosting service that emphasizes producing and monetizing podcasts. It has an easy-to-use user interface which makes it very easy for users to produce, publish, and manage your podcasting website within a short period.
Podbean was established in 2006 and currently has almost half a million podcasts. This New York-based company has a popular player that works with Amazon’s Alexa, Android, and iOS.
Easy to understand, as well as to operate, Podbean’s user interface is a plus for beginners who do not need a lot of bells and whistles on their main pages. When you open the dashboard, you can see basic analytics quickly. The left-hand side on your computer should show a list of easy-access links that will take you to the different parts of your account. On your phone, the list should be in the menus tab on the top left.
The Episode listing page lets users track all their content production because it keeps track of all your drafts, published episodes, as well as scheduled episodes. Podbean’s design is responsive and excellent on the computer. They also have a mobile app that not only lets you listen to other podcast shows, it also allows you to readily record for your own podcast.
Aside from audio podcasts, Podbean also has account levels that support videos. Video podcasts are beneficial for some podcasters, depending on the topic and the genre. However, this may not necessarily be an asset for all users.
There are different ways to monetize your podcast and they are the Podbean Advertising Marketplace, Podads, Premium podcasting, and the Patron service.
- Podbean Advertising Marketplace – posting your show on the marketplace allows companies who have an interest in showcasing their products, brand, and services to get in touch with users. After finding an advertiser who wants to be promoted on your show they can place their ads within the episodes of your podcast.
- PodAds – basically an extension of the Podbean Advertising Marketplace, PodAds is dynamic insertion. This dynamic ad service allows you to manage ad campaigns easily with targeted analytics. The great thing about dynamic ad insertion is that it allows users to swap ads later and run more than a single campaign on the episodes of your podcast.
- Premium podcasting – allows users to charge per episode or on a subscription basis. Users can then get direct support from listeners.
- Patron – setting up a Patron page allows users to create unique content for superfans which can be accessed for a monthly subscription fee.
Podbean offers five account levels to choose from. The basic or free level has limitations when it comes to storage, and is unable to schedule in advance. The Unlimited Audio account works well for most users. However, depending on your needs, you may also consider the Business or Enterprise level that comes with additional features.
Podbean allows podcasters to record audio live or live streams through the mobile app or website. Another great feature is that up to five people can take part in the live recording at once. The recording can be immediately made live or you can also save the audio and download it to edit it.
The live recording option is beneficial for capturing, as well as streaming audio from churches and other public events.
Doubles as directory
Aside from hosting your episodes, Podbean also allows users to shoot new content through the RSS feed to other directories. Your audience can listen to your show through their computer or via the mobile app. Users can also choose their own site theme from an extensive collection which gives users creative ownership.
